The Tawas Community Concert Band brings back the flavor of the hometown band shell performances of years gone by. It is organized to provide a way for musicians to perform for personal satisfaction and growth; to present concerts for the enjoyment and cultural enrichment of the residents and visitors of the Tawas area, Iosco County, and surrounding communities; and to provide scholarship opportunities for area high school students. You must provide your own instrument (except some percussion).
The Concert Band performs a fall, Christmas, and spring community concert in addition to their popular Concert-In-The-Park series which are performed Monday evenings in the summer at the East Tawas City Park on Tawas Bay. Join year-round, or for a season.
Celebrating 25 Years of Music in the Tawas Area
The Tawas Community Concert Band has a history of providing great concerts in the Tawas Area. Under the leadership of ten different directors since its inception in 1980, the band has continued on a steady growth pattern both in numbers and proficiency. The original group consisted of 16 members and has grown to its current number of 54.
The band has operated under several names including; The Tawas Community Band, Shoreline Musicians, Sound Waves Concert Band and the present Tawas Community Concert Band. Since its existence, the Tawas Area Schools Community Education Department has sponsored the band.
Members of the ensemble come from as far south as Standish, Michigan to as far North as Lincoln, Michigan. The band still maintains a "come one, come all" philosophy inviting any adult with a band instrument with some musical knowledge to come and join the group.
The band is known for its summer concerts in the park. These performances take place in the East Tawas City Park on Monday evenings June through August. The band will perform four concerts to celebrate this anniversary year: October, December, February, and April.
